STATEMENT

I have had an abiding interest in colour throughout most of my latterly when combined with texture. This was further enhanced when I trained as a woven textile designer and learnt how colour changed due to specific patterns on the coloured threads. As a result of this training I am drawn to more abstract forms of art. The main focuses of my own art are abstracts and abstracted landscapes. These often develop from a selection of colours and a vague idea then through a process of manipulation and mark making the finished image emerges. I paint mainly in acrylics as I find it the most versatile medium for me but also work with other mediums depending on the results I want to create. I enjoy experimenting and looking at alternatives and combinations in mixing media and ways of painting. I first trained in England where I completed a Diploma in Design and Colour, majoring in Textile design. I was awarded two scholarships to further my research into woven design and was employed in various textile firms. Later, in New Zealand I gained an honours Diploma in Art and Creativity from The Learning Connexion. I have attended a number of workshops run by national and international tutors to further my knowledge. Recent work has been selected into various exhibitions in the Wellington, Manawatu, Central Hawkes Bay, Marlborough and Nelson regions. I was guest artist at the Riversdale art exhibition, Southland in 2010 and in 2017 was the guest artist at the Rotary National Art exhibition in Paraparaumu. My work can be seen at the Artel Gallery in Otaki, New Zealand
